# search_companies

**Find companies** · Free discovery

Search the SEC-registered US company directory by ticker or name and check direct research availability. Free.

## Input parameters

| Parameter | Type | Required | Description |

| `q` | string | Yes | Search the current SEC company directory by ticker or name, independently of direct research coverage. Omit as\_of. min length 1; max length 80 |

## Transports

* **x402 HTTP:** not offered; this tool is free.
